A new automated Underhood Thermal Management (UTM) CFD DoE workflow with modeFRONTIER
Methodologies [Integration]
Parallel Room #1, Mon, 12/05/2014 - 17:10 - 17:30

A new automated Underhood Thermal Management (UTM) CFD DoE workflow with modeFRONTIER has been developed. The automated workflow includes the morphing based CAE model creation on a parameterized full vehicle model, the robust creation of highly complex 3D volume meshes, the setup of a full conjugate heat transfer analysis and the submission of the analysis to the remote super computer in full automated way. Integrated with an optimization software package the workflow enables the use of optimization techniques with complex 3D full vehicle conjugate heat transfer analysis. In particular the development of a robust automatic volume meshing approach for a highly detailed full vehicle model and the robust automatic setup and execution of a full conjugate heat transfer analysis together with design optimization process are major achievements of this project. This method has been applied on an engine undershield for PTU cooling aspect as a design release tool. The high complexity of the undershield could be decreased with a cost effective solution undershield with NACA duct, the costly PTU fan deleted and the high PTU oil temperature could be reduced as well.
